In my stereo : Eric Schackne - Hammers and strings EP
Eric Schackne is a novel brand of artist with a large portion of his life dedicated to learning and playing music and writing lyrics. While he is technically a singer/songwriter, one listen to his latest record HAMMERS & STRINGS EP will prove that he is much more. He strives to carve out a genre all his own, encompassing his unique piano-driven pop rock wherein he writes, plays and produces each song from top to bottom.
Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the age of zero, Eric’s first musical influence was a blend of classic rock, classical music and pop. Moving on from what his parents listened to, he got into Nirvana and Metallica just as much as Millencolin and Bad Religion. As the punk scene grew and diversified in south Florida, bands like Dashboard Confessional, The Rocket Summer, and Copeland joined Eric’s music collection. Always one to keep an open mind, he admits that he is one of those awful people that will tell you he likes almost every kind of music.
Today, Eric is ready to officially release his new EP with a full band to back him live. He recently wrote and produced two songs for Artist Community for Change L.A.’s contemporary rock ballet “GAIA”- Unplug and Reconnect, which debuted at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre on February 18, 2012. The show also featured his song, “Art Can Change the World” from HAMMERS & STRINGS EP. With a three-piece band assembled for his live shows, Eric Schackne is excited to release HAMMERS & STRINGS EP and hopes that his art can truly change the world.

In my stereo : Adestria - Chapters

In my stereo : Adestria - Chapters
The days of musical segregation are over. The floodgates are open and the most exciting elements of a widely diverse swath of different sub-genres have intermingled and there is no turning back. With the utmost artistic confidence and a dizzyingly intense stage show, Adestria represents the finest synthesis yet of modern hardcore punk, thick heavy metal and infectious pop music. Chapters is a new dawn for diversity.
Named one of the Best Unsigned Bands by Alternative Press, Adestria have now made Artery Recordings their home and crafted a debut album with hooks at every turn. The group is careful to maintain a certain signature sound while operating a skillful balancing act with multiple dynamics operating inside the overall framework. "We try to make the songs pretty diverse and we avoid squeezing ourselves into one specific genre," notes vocalist Matt Anderson.
Imagine an adept combination of the catchy discordant heaviness of Devil Wears Prada, the brash melody of Asking Alexandria, the fierce breakdown heavy experimentalism of August Burns Red and the New Wave of American Heavy Metal influenced "down under" sheen of Parkway Drive and one will begin to get a glimpse of what Adestria accomplished with the writing and recording of their altogether exciting Chapters.
Release date : March 27th.

Under the radar : The Durango Riot

The Durango Riot are from a small industrial town called Karlskoga, Sweden. The group formed in 2005 by the childhood friends Jacob (guitar), Fred (vocals/guitar), Erik (drums) and Håkan (bass). With their debutalbum "Telemission" (2007) the band immediately started making waves in their native Sweden with their bluesy, rootsy and highly energetic songs.
The album made way for the band to tour everywere between Europe and Japan Before the making of their new album the band were contacted by legendary producer Joe Barresi (Queens Of The Stone Age, Tool etc) who expressed a genuin interest in working with the group. The result was a two week session in Barresis studio in Pasadena, Los Angeles were the band layed the ground to what was to become the album "Backwards Over Midnight" The band has taken a big step towards a more expressive, dark and dangerously groovy sound that contains both à journey into te very heart of rock n roll and also à very unique fresh sounding type of songs.
New album out soon produced by Joe Barresi (Queens Of The Stone Age, Tool etc)

Under the radar : Attaloss

Los Angeles modern rockers Attaloss are hitting the road for a national tour to promote their upcoming release on April 10th, 2012 via Rock Ridge Music/Warner Music Group/ADA. Their new record showcases two sides of the band, the high energy blown out rock side and the stripped down acoustic side.
Danny, Chris, Lorenzo, and Dakota all left their respective hometowns and moved to Los Angeles to chase their rock and roll dream. Once they decided to join forces together they began the arduous task of trying to come up with a band name. After kicking around hundreds of potential names, they got news that their rehearsal studio was broken into and all their music gear was stolen. "Getting news like that was such a kick in the gut that we literally were at a loss for words. We realized in that moment that we had our band name," said guitarist Chris Johansen who immediately began tracking down the thief. After an exhaustive search, along with Chris’ help, police apprehended the suspect a couple of months later and the band’s gear was recovered mostly intact. Instruments in hand, they recorded the first five songs on the album in early 2011 and set out on tour around the country playing shows with such acts as Neon Trees, Smashing Pumpkins, and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. Realizing they weren’t quite capturing their recorded sound live, they added guitarist/vocalist Matt Geronimo and headed back into the studio to record the acoustic half of the record as a five piece.

Under the radar : The Trip

Three guys, a band: a dream against the odds. The Trip has the sound, The Trip has the music. Determined to do things their own way, they self-funded a long sojourn in the US to record and produce their debut album, working alongside some of America’s best-known and most experienced producers.
The album was completely recorded with musical genius Mike in Adelaide. What at the time had seemed madness now made perfect sense, and the guys had found the sound inspired by a priceless three-year musical journey - a keen-edged fusion of danceable electronic funky rock, catchy hooks and melodies that please the ear and make the feet want to start moving.
The Trip have now pushed their fondness of a well known leisure activity to new levels with their film clip for their debut single On The First Time, this Aussie based rock band will release their debut album on Megaforce Records on May 22nd.
