Heavy Metal Track of The Day - Biscaya

One of the best hard rock/metal bands ever from Sweden! Play it loud and howl in the sky!

Rock and roll heroes - Simple Minds

It´s really hard to describe the Scottish band Simple Minds sound, I mean they have made new wave albums, prog-pop albums and even arena rock. I have listened to this band since the start mostly because I had a friend who was a huge fan of electronic music. Simple Minds classic albums has a special place in my heart from New Gold Dream (1982) to Real Life (1991).

The underrated "Good news from the next world" (1995) didn´t go with any hits nor did it gain any rave reviews but I think of it as one of my favorite albums with this band. Perhaps it´s their most rocking album too.

In the beginning, Simple Minds was more of a band and today they´re down to singer Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill, but they still release plenty of strong music from the 2002 album Cry to the latest Graffiti Soul (2009). Don´t forget to add the 1981 album Sons of fascination to the good album list as well.

Simple Minds was searching for their sound on the first 3 albums between 1979-1980 and I´m not such a big fan of these early albums, and the synth dominated Neapolis from 1998 is a major disappointment. Not the Simple Minds I wanted, the covers album Neon lights from 2001 is an unnecessary release that feels like it was more for themselves than for the fans.

Rock and roll heroes - Rich Ward

Rich Ward is definitely one of the best riff makers on this planet, he doesn´t get the attention he deserves but I will salute him and all the bands he´s been in here.
Sick Speed´s The Way I Am album from 2002 and Stuck Mojo´s latest album The Great Revival are forever classics from this axeman.

2 albums that were completely lost and forgotten, The Duke-My kung fu is good (2005) and the Cafu demo from 2003. So underrated and so good. Cafu was more or less a cousin to Sick Speed while The Duke album showed Rich Ward in a more pop mood but still great stuff.

There are plenty of solid albums worth checking out from Mr.Ward like the Fozzy catalogue between 2000-2010 and the Stuck Mojo albums "Southern born killers" (2007) and "Declaration of a head hunter" (2000). Those riffs are all over these ones too.

I´m not that much of a fan of Stuck Mojo´s early work from Snappin necks (1995) to the compilation of rare songs "Violate this" (2001), too much rap for me I guess.

Heavy Metal Track of The Day - Megadeth

This is probably the best riff Dave Mustaine has ever written, just listen to Reckoning day from 1994 and bang your heads!

Under the radar : We Are Grace

The importance of crappy part time retail employment to the formation and progress of Aussie band WE ARE GRACE cannot be overstated. Featuring Laurie Fouracre – vocals / keys , Liam Shearer – guitar , Ben “JC” Wright – bass , Adam Shearer – guitar , Nathan Pace – drums. March 2011 saw the band get picked up by the agency Artist Voice who quickly secured them a Spectrum residency as well as a string of dates in Sydney and Melbourne for June and July.
We Are Grace signed with Flashpoint Music and released their debut single "Yes I Blame You" in the summer of 2011, their brand new single "A boy like you" is available now and can be streamed at:
www.wearegraceband.com
Expect the debut album out in 2012.

Iconcrash - Stockholm

Electro rock from Finland, taken from their new album Inkeroinen.

Reese Richardson - Easy sister

Reese Richardson puts a contemporary spin on some good old-fashioned rock with his latest track “Easy Sister”. The track holds a particularly distinct sound, one resembling a kind of “The Black Keys” meets “White Stripes”, delivering an unpolished classic rock canvas, layered with soul, blues, and some good classic rock n roll.

Under the radar : All the young

After a year when guitars all but vanished from British primetime radio sets, there's a need for a band with the brains, brawn and balls to take 2011 and smash it into a brave new frontier of indie rock 'n' roll. A few names have already been uttered in hushed, and erm, not so hushed tones. In Stoke's All The Young, there's potentially one to drown them all out. It's a vintage yarn that the Dooley... brothers – frontman Ryan and bassist Jack – with drummer Will Heaney and guitarist David Cartwright, are rebirthing for a generation that's lying twitching on the floor, wailing out for a hit of heady, heavy r 'n' r.

It's with that same faultless drive, determination and ambition that All The Young burst into the world with an album of brick-breaking powerhouse sounds, brought into catastrophic dimensions by none other than rawk royalty GGGarth Richardson, the man responsible for classic albums from Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Biffy Clyro.
Their self titled debut album will be out on Feb 6th, stream the new single "Quiet night in" here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MatR45sRkWE

Under the radar : Anneke Van Giersbergen

Anneke van Giersbergen’s long-awaited album “Everything Is Changing” is slated for a January 2012 release on PIAS Recordings. The first single “Feel Alive” preceded the full-length disc in September 2011, and the accompanying video became an Internet sensation.

When Anneke van Giersbergen started her solo career back in 2007, she had already been the frontwoman of Dutch metal pioneers The Gathering for 13 years. Together with her band Agua de Annique she released several outstanding albums to both critical and popular acclaim in a short period of time which immediately put her in the picture as a solo artist.

Her new album, “Everything Is Changing”, not only reveals new strengths in her recognizable style, but really kicks it up a notch when it comes to taking Anneke’s talents to a higher level, both lyrically and vocally. Have a listen, and everything might change.
