Red Remedy - Oblivion

Coming together in the twilight of 2008, Aussie rockers Red Remedy’s ‘09 was spent road testing their initial labours in as many fine establishments as time would allow. Employing the keen guidance of producer Lamar Lowder (Jerk, Powerman 5000, Yothu Yindi), the tracks that survived the distilling process were committed to tape in a predominately live format at Sydney’s Megaphon Studios late in Feb 2010 in the shadows of Midnight Oil, The Hard Ons,Silverchair, Front End Loader, You am I and The Cruel Sea. The result, their debut effort “Oblivion”, is an emotive and genuine piece of work.
Red Remedy released their debut EP 'Oblivion' to a near capacity crowd In September 2010 at Sydney's iconic Annandale Hotel.

Members :
Zach Evans - Vocals/Guitar, Adrian Booth - Bass, Jess Rossiter - Drums, Leigh Czerwonka - Guitar

Tracks:
1.Am I coming around
2.Tunnel vision

The title track is awesome.

Rock and roll heroes - Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath, the fathers of all heavy metal bands with Tony Iommi on guitar who is the king of heavy riffs without any competition.
The Ozzy era up to 1976 plus the 2 first albums with Dio are nothing but classics, if you don´t know about these albums - you certainly don´t know your heavy metal bible at all.

The Tony Martin era doesn´t get much attention at all, but these albums between 1987-1995 are all so underrated and really, really good.
There are plenty of riffs on these ones to be called lost classics I think and Tony Martin is truly a great singer, mark my words.

3 albums that were good and helped build their reputation : the last album with Ozzy namely Never say die (1978), Dehumanizer with Dio (1992) and The devil you know by Heaven and Hell (2009).
I can return to these albums and find new favorite songs every time.

Oh no, I´m not sure what went on in their minds when they released Born again from 1983 and Seventh star from 1986, but these ain´t Black Sabbath albums even if they say so on the cover.
The first one is with Ian Gillan from Deep Purple and Bev Bevan from ELO????? The weirdest line up ever and the 2nd one features only Iommi from the original line up where Glenn Hughes handled the mic.
I haven´t listened to these albums since they came out and it will remain that way.
A sad affair.

Interview with Autovein

When I first heard about the band Autovein, they were called The Adored and was signed to Columbia Records in 2005, then as usual in the record business things started to get messy and all of a sudden their debut album "Bullets and bruises" came out on Outlook Music in 2007.
Their new album "Souvenirs" is one of the best albums in the modern rock genre of 2010.
Here is an interview with drummer Andy Herrin and frontman Bryan Roach.

1.Hi there, how are things going for Autovein at the moment?
Andy -Things with Autovein are very exciting right now. We've got a bunch of new songs we are in the process of recording, which we will be releasing very soon. We are also working on some tour dates at the moment as well.

2.So when did you join the band, wasn´t it Ben Miller who played drums on the first album "Bullets and bruises"?
Andy -I joined the band in Nov.2009. I was actually backstage at Cruefest in St.Louis seeing some friends play, when I was approached by Brandon about Autovein needing a drummer. They gave me a CD with the new songs and I loved what I heard, so I went and rehearsed with them and it felt great.
Ben Miller was the drummer before me, but I believe Matt Fine played drums on the first album

3.It´s been quite a change in the line up between the albums with only singer Bryan Roach and guitarist Zack Alexopulos left from the first album.
But I reckon Bryan is the one making most of the music?
Andy -Ya Bryan is the primary song writer. He basically brings stuff to rehearsal and then we all work on it together, but he's always been the main songwriter of the band
Bryan -Well, it's true this band has gone through quite a few personnel changes, but the way I see it - that was just part of the evolution of the band...this is really the only one we focus on now. the old record (Bullets and Bruises) just represents where we were as a band when we made it, and the same holds true for the new record. Truth be told - Autovein will always strive to grow, and change, and challenge ourselves, and evolve

4.I´m not that familiar with the music scene in St.Louis more than its a blues and jazz city, please enlighten me about some other well known bands and artists from your hometown.
Andy -St.Louis is definitely known for it's jazz and blues, but there are some bands breaking out these days. CAVO, old friends of ours, are doing really well on Warner brothers these days. Also, LUDO, The Bottle Rockets, and Story of the Year are from St.Louis as well. And who could forget Chuck Berry of course. He actually still performs monthly in STL. He's 80 something years old and he still does the "duck walk" every night. It's amazing to see.
Bryan -Ton of great bands from here...both commercially successful and not...the Urge, Stir, Living Things, Greenwheel, Go Van Gogh, Story of the Year, Cavo...oh yeah - and then us. hehe.

5.It´s been over a year now since the latest album "Souvenirs" was released, are you working on new songs with a possible new album in the works on the horizon?
Andy -We have 2 brand new songs we literally just recorded and we are extremely excited about them. We are hoping to get them released very soon. We're already playing them live, and the crowds seem to be digging them.
Bryan -Truth is, we released "Souvenirs" ourselves in November of 2009 and pulled it from stores just a few months later to begin working on a proper release...but that deal never happened. we've been working on a bunch of new music and we intend to put something out very soon. no details yet...but stay in touch!

6.I watched the video of "Suicides and lullabies" on youtube which is an awesome song and am quite frustrated over that you aren´t more popular, is it hard to get your music played on radio over there?
Andy -Thanks very much, we are very proud of that video. It actually just got picked up by "Cool TV" which is a newer music video channel and we're talking with MTVU about playing it, fingers crossed!
Radio in the US is rough these days. Bigger labels run who gets played and who doesn't. Suicides is getting some play, hopefully it'll keep picking up, and the video being on different networks will hopefully help out too. We definitely feel you on the frustration side of things haha.

Bryan -Sure it's tough. ask almost any band, even the successful ones, and they'll tell you the same thing. but they'll also tell you "don't quit" and "never give up"...and we won't.

7.Autovein have shared stages with bands like The Exies, Cavo and Smile Empty Soul.
Is there any band you would like to support on a world tour?
Andy -I would love to support Idlewild on a World tour. I love that band and rocking with them every night would be a dream come true. Not to mention, I would hope some of their style would rub off on me
Bryan -Many I'm sure. 30 Seconds to Mars would be amazing tho - I've seen some footage of their oversees shows and they look insane

8.If you were the last survivor on earth where the zombies ruled the planet and you had a tank, armored and ready to blast some zombies. The tank ofcourse had a huge sound system but only one CD in it. Which album would you like to listen to while taking on some dead walkers?
Bryan -I have a short list of truly amazing CDs that I believe I could listen to forever - but if I had to narrow it down to a CD that I could rock while crushing zombies...i think it would be something like Coral Fang by the Distillers. die zombies.

9.I guess you are huge fans of Foo Fighters as well as grunge music which has influenced Autovein´s sound, what bands did you grow up listening to?
Bryan -Who are the Foo Fighters? just kidding. everything really...and I mean really. all of us are different. we raz each other all the time about the shit in our iTunes. I'd say no genre is off-limits...not even country or rap. for me...my dad used to play a lot of Doobie Brothers, the Beatles, Billy Joel, Elton John, and even Randy Travis...but my older brother was always listening to Rush and Van Halen...I always seemed to find something I liked in almost all of it...except maybe Rush...never did understand that...and for the record...it's true that early Autovein was influenced somewhat by grunge - but there are a LOT of great bands that shaped the writing on that first record...Creeper Lagoon, Jimmy Eat World, Longwave, Pedro the Lion, BRMC, and even Coldplay - to name a few. they're influence may not be as obvious...but it's there... thank you for the interest!

A New Horizon - Back home

Now this is a high quality modern rock album and they´re from Italy, oh yes. A New Horizon really knocked me out with their 2010 album "Back home" which sounds like a mix of Trust Company and Falling up. I just love the guitar sound and the amazing vocal melodies.
Highly recommendable!

ng26 - Open your mind

ng26 is an alternative metal band from U.K, their new album "Open your mind" was released in the fall of 2010 and it was the follow up to the 2006 album "Break away".
They are influenced by bands like Disturbed, Metallica and Alter Bridge, I think it´s a solid album with some great songs and a few really cool riffs but the drum production is a bit weak.

127 Hours, 22 Bullets movies and more music

I watched another 2 movies this weekend, first 127 hours that is based on a true story about a man who falls down a canyon back in 2003 and gets stuck with his right hand under a rock.
Great acting from James Franco and worth watching mostly because it´s based on a true event.
3 stars!
The other was one a French movie starring Jean Reno, if you´re into mafia movies and especially the ones about revenge. Then you should definitely watch 22 Bullets (L´immortel).
Reno is awesome as a mafia boss that has retired but is betrayed by his best friend, payback time!
4 stars!

And now to 2 albums I´ve been listening to today, Cruz from Brazil that has relocated to Los Angeles, their mini album is a solid postgrunge / modern rock affair. Nothing to jump high about but it´s competent.
The other one is the British rocknroll band The Crave and their debut "Breaking the silence" which sounds like something that could´ve been released on Eleven Seven Music.
I like this record a lot, the mix of 80´s hardrock and alternative rock works really well here.

Human Cometh HCII singles VIDEO

Buried and CD reviews

I watched the thriller Buried last night which is a movie that belong to the genre "filmed in the same place" with movies like "Open water" (2003), "Phone Booth" (2002), "127 hours" (2010). The best part with Buried is Ryan Reynolds acting which he does great lying there stuck in the coffin, buried. But I thought the movie had 2 minor holes in the story, like with the snake crawling out of a small hole but no sand was coming in that way. Why?
There was plenty of sand coming down from the top of the coffin. And one other thing, at the end. When the military thought they found the place he was buried, they said on his cell phone they found Mark White instead who had been missing for 3 weeks. Well, a corpse that has been lying there for 3 weeks can hardly be identified so quickly. You need to take fingerprints, dna, blah blah blah. Such a shame since the rest of the movie was pretty good.

New reviews added of De Staat - Machinery, Electric Boys - And them boys done swang, Eleven lives EP, Tiny Animals - Our own time, Brian Robertson - Diamonds and dirt

The Town and some album tip´s

My friends told me I should watch Ben Affleck´s new movie "The town", well it was just as good as everybody said. It might even be Affleck´s best movie so far.
Definitely a top 3 with him in the starring role, 2 hours of quality and the best possible drama/action you could see right now. 4 stars!

Swedish metal band Sparzanza has truly impressed me with their previous albums "Banisher of the light" (2007) and "In voodoo veritas" (2009).
Their fans won´t be disappointed over their new album "Folie a cinq" either, massive riffs and cool choruses are lined up just the way I hoped.
This album rocks!
www.myspace.com/sparzanza

American pop/rock band The Maine surprised me with a new release released in Dec 2010, shortly after the full length album "Black and white".
The new album "In darkness and in light" contains b-sides, unreleased demos and new music as well. Pretty good stuff but a bit uneven.
Some of these songs are featured in the short film "In darkness and in light". Favorite track : "Untangle me"
www.myspace.com/themaine

With a mix of pop punk, alternative rock and modern rock. California based Kill The Complex has released a solid album with "Evolution" last year.
The opening track "Shine" is really good and it´s a shame that the rest of the album doesn´t match this lovely song. The other tracks are good but especially this one made me wanna push the repeat button. Well, they should sound better with a stronger mix as well.

www.humancometh.com
Get a taste of melodic hard rock the Cometh way! Mixed by the legendary Dan Swanö!

The other guys plus album tip´s

I thought the new comedy The Other Guys was really funny, Will Ferrell is awesome but also wonderful acting from Mark Wahlberg, Michael Keaton, Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L Jackson.

I´ve got a tip from my good friend Mag to check out The Dance Party´s 2010 album "Touch", they are signed to Atlantic Records and based in Washington DC.
Woah, this is lovely powerpop stuff that will make your legs swing for sure. Like a smorgasbord of electric beats and sweet melodies.
Memphis modern rockers Aurora features lead singer Brett Erickson, formerly of Breaking Point. This unsigned act has posted several great tracks but I recommend "Translation", "Alive", "Faultine" and "King Willie".

The Wrecking - About to fall VIDEO

Taken from The Wrecking´s new album "So much for love" out this spring.

MrNorth - Everything

Dublin based MrNorth released their amazing debut "Lifesize" in 2004 and followed up with the critically acclaimed Fear and desire in 2007.
In 2009, the band delivered their first live album "Live in New York" and now with the help from their fans. The long awaited new album "Everything" is available where the fans financed the studio recordings by pre-ordering the album at pledgemusic.com.
The band says the new album is their best and I can only agree, "Everything" is the first 5 star album of 2011 mostly because of the impressive list of songs as well as the amazing vocals from Colin Smith. Woah, 11 tracks that takes you cloudwalking baby. Superb and smart alternative rock.

Human Cometh HCII track by track comment

My band Human Cometh´s new album HCII is almost finished and we have decided to release it bit by bit with 2 songs at a time starting with the first two in February!
All the music and lyrics are written by myself and guitarist Morgan Pettersson, other musicians on HCII: Björn Pehrson - Bass, Jon Robbins - Drums, Jay Schankman - Keyboards, Steven Gardner and Rob Coney Ciccone - Backing vocals.
Plus:
Unni Saltin - Screamo on "Hyperspace"
Josefin Bäck - Guest vocals on "Challenger deep".
The artwork is done by Anders Plassgård and the new album is currently being mixed by legendary Dan Swanö!
Here´s a track by track comment about the new songs:

ALONE IN THE DARK

(Every man who has a family, especially with daughters, wants them to grow up in a safe place. But my hometown turned into a very dark place with the recent happenings of the worst serial rapist in Swedish history, fortunately the Police caught him but I felt I needed to write about it, lets call him Jonathan just to give him a name)

AMBASSADOR OF ROCK

(Music will always conquer borders and after I´ve read Astronaut Fuglesang´s book, I realized music unites people from different countries even on the international space station in space. Astronauts are the true ambassadors of rock)

CHALLENGER DEEP

(Since a few years back, I wanted to write a story about a man with a dark childhood that turns out to be a hero in the end but if people only knew the real person behind the glorious facade. My good friend Malle had an idea about a soldier that returns after the war so I put together them both, the wonderful voice of Josefin Bäck plays his wife so here is the first part of Bynes Hunteera)

HYPERSPACE

(I have always been a fan of Warrior´s lyrics such as Fighting for the earth and Defenders of creation. I wanted to do something similar on my own and since human kind is thinking of moving to Mars, it only felt right to write these lyrics about us being hyenas with first doing our best of polluting mother earth and then do the same to the next planet)

KING OF SPADES

(Based on Dean R Koontz book "Mr Murder" which is one of my favorites, we all want and need a home to belong to but this man takes it one step further and wants another man´s life and home as his own and nothing will stand in his way)

LOVE GAMES

(I have written lyrics for 30 years now and most of them have never been recorded or released, this song is based on 2 different lyrics, the first written in 1985 called Love games with my good friend Patrik Lilja and the other one from 1994 called Sahara snow. It´s simply a love song about a guy and his love/hate relationship, women! you cant live with them and you can live without them)

RED BALLOON

(for the first album "Evolution", my wife Gunilla said I should write a song called White sky and so I did. And for the 2nd album "HCII", I told her to come up with a new title and a new challenge.
Her answer was "Red balloon", there I sat with a title that meant nothing and 1000 things at the same time. But like lightning from a clear blue sky, I saw this soldier on the battlefield turning into a frightened child with his red balloon. We are all kids on the inside)

SMASH CRASH

(to drink and drive is never an option, the victims most often pay with their lives while the criminal only sits out a few years behind bars. If there´s a devil, I know he has a place saved for these evil men)

SUPERVOLCANO

(I watch Discovery, National Geographic and Animal Planet all the time and saw this feature of supervolcanos. My friend and Human Cometh guitarist Morgan thought we should write a song with that title. So my question is, When will Yellowstone awake from his sleep?)

THE FIGHT OF THE SKYSCRAPERS

(First I wanted to write a song about a battle between skyscrapers, inspired by Rush´s The Trees. But instead this song turned out as a salute to the highest landmarks on our planet. No matter how high they get, the most classic one will always be Empire state building in NYC)

Cargo

A German Sci-fi movie is not the most common thing around but Cargo was great, if you love movies like 2001 and 2010, then this German sci-fi thriller is a must.
Extremely well done and very dramatic, if you like suspense - watch it tonight!
4 stars out of 5.

Outcast and Monsters

I watched 2 horror movies last night, the British "Outcast" which was really dark and more of a drama about a boy and the beast he becomes. Quite cool and really violent.
3 stars out of 5.
The other one is a sci-fi/thriller in the same vein as District 9, it´s called "Monsters" and is about an infected zone in Mexico where the extra terrestrials has landed and 2 Americans is going home to the states through the zone. Great acting and entertaining.
3 out of 5 too.
