Rock and roll heroes - Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd, Globe Arena, Stockholm 1989. A night of magic! Yeah, I still remember this show like it was yesterday. They played one set of songs from "A momentary lapse of reason" and one set of old classics.
Their 1973 album "Dark side of the moon" is the 3rd best selling album in the world after Jackson´s Thriller and AC/DC´s Back in black. Oh my, what a great band it was!

The 1983 album The Final Cut don´t get much attention in the press, it´s the last with Roger Waters and it´s also the only one recorded without Richard Wright on keyboards.

Waters and Gilmour weren´t exactly the best friends during this album but there are some utterly great songs on it.

6 really good albums to lay your eyes on, from the 1968 album "A saucerful of secrets" (the first one with David Gilmour) to the last studio album "The division bell" from 1994.

Just like if it wasn´t enough for the classics, these albums is a reason enough for the Polar Prize Award in 2008.

Not to mention "Careful with that axe, Eugene" from Ummagumma.

The only album I don´t care that much for is the first one "The piper at the gates of dawn" where Syd Barrett was leading the band. "See Emily play" is a good track but the rest is just too psychedelic and weird.

Rock and roll heroes - Aerosmith

Boston! Ah, what a city. I´ve never been there but I sure want to go there. They´ve got my favorite NHL team Boston Bruins and great bands like Boston, The Cars, Extreme, Godsmack and Aerosmith ofcourse.
My brother introduced me to this great rocknroll band in the 70´s and I fell in love with the album "Rocks" right away, the first 5 studio albums between 1973-1977 are classics and I don´t think anyone would argue with that.
I think we should include the No.1 hit selling 1993 album "Get a grip" in that fine list as well.

The 1982 album "Rock in a hard place" is really good even though it´s the only album without guitarists Brad Whitford and Joe Perry. Their replacements Rick Lefay and Jimmy Crespo did a fine job in co-writing 7 tracks on the album.

The bad boys of Boston has released several strong albums in the past 3 decades all from A night in the ruts (1979) to Just push play (2001), the band got a 2nd run of getting mighty popular with Permanent vacation from 1987 but the best album here is Pump (1989) that featured one of their best tracks with "Love in an elevator".

Avoid their 2004 covers album "Honkin on Bobo", this is not the Aerosmith I want to listen to. Maybe only for the original track "The grind" written by the band.

Rock and roll heroes - White Heart

The 2nd best Christian rock band after Petra is White Heart, this band delivered some fantastic harmony vocals as well as pro-musicianship and brilliant songs on the 4 albums Freedom, Power house, Tales of wonder and Highlands between 1989-1993.
If you haven´t heard this band, it´s really about time you listen to White Heart now.

The band had a more modern and alternative sound on their 90´s albums but the last studio album "Redemption" (1997) had lot of potential and feels rather underrated.

There are some great songs on it even though it cannot match the classic stuff.

The first 4 albums Vital signs, Hotline, Don´t wait for the movie Read the book and Emergency broadcast between 1984-1987 are all good and worth exploring. It took until album no.5 before they reached their peak but these ones made the way.

When White Heart took a more alternative sound and left the classy progressive/AOR sound behind, the album Inside from 1995 felt like an experiment and didn´t come out for the best I´m afraid. Weak it is.

Oh man, I just love this man´s voice. John Elefante! Just look at the discography behind this wonderful artist. From Young and innocent on the St.Elmos Fire Soundtrack to Helpless on the Voices compilation, not to mention the 3 Mastedon albums and the amazing solo albums Windows of heaven, Corridors and Defying gravity.
Ohyeah, he fronted Kansas on the albums Vinyl confessions and Drastic measures as well.

Rock and roll heroes - Ozzy Osbourne

The myth, the legend! Ozzy must have 9 lives, this rocker would probably survive judgement day. I have seen him in concert 3 times where the 1991 tour was the best one so far.
Ozzy has also discovered amazing guitarists on his albums like Randy Rhoads, Jake E Lee, Zakk Wylde and Gus G.
The first 4 albums and the 1991 album No more tears are forever classics.

A truly underrated album is Ozzmosis from 1995 that hardly ever Ozzy play live, why? Perry Mason is fantastic and there´s more......listen to it again and you will understand.

4 really good albums that holds a high quality are No rest for the wicked (1988), Down to earth (2001), Black rain (2007) and the latest album Scream (2010).

I think Gus G. was perfect for Ozzy after having Zakk Wylde for so long, the new one isnt better than Black rain but equally good.

When Ozzy does a covers album with "Under cover" in 2005, my interest in the guy goes down the trash can. I never want to hear this type of album with him again.
