Modern Rock history (early era) 1995

So where did the term modern rock come from really? The first bands in this genre were more of postgrunge sounding bands like Live and Failure that became pretty successful in 1994 but it wasn´t until a year later in 1995, when the modern rock genre became the style of melodic and radio ready rock we learned to love up til today.
Whether you call it active rock or modern rock or even alternative rock, the main focus for these bands will always be chorus oriented rock music with a modern production where the most popular and best selling bands today are Nickelback and Linkin Park.
