Try sing "Sara" on a karaoke night and you will understand, these 3 albums are forever classics in the AOR genre and also big time sellers with Starship.
The 1984 album "Nuclear furniture" by Jefferson Starship contains several songs that Thomas still sing live along with the million sellers "Knee deep in the hoopla" (1985) and "No protection" (1987).
No original members except Mickey Thomas was left in the band when they released "Love among the cannibals" in 1989, so it´s more of a solo album but what a stunning AOR album it is.Here you will find "The burn" and "It´s not enough" that easily can be counted as some of the best Thomas has sang on. The album didn´t sell well but has a special place in my heart anyway!
4 albums worth having if you´re a Mickey Thomas fan, his two first solo albums "As long as you love me" (1976) and "Alive alone" (1981) plus the first two Jefferson Starship albums "Modern times" (1981) and "Winds of change" (1982).
Good stuff I don´t mind listening to every now and then.
The 2004 album "Over the edge" shouldn´t be featured here at all, it´s a disgrace to be in the same place as the Starship albums because the production was lame but the songs even worse.

Thomas has a new album out which I haven´t heard yet, the 2010 album "The bluesmasters featuring Mickey Thomas" shows the singer from another side. This is more of a blues/soul album according to the press release.

ReplyDeleteThe two Jefferson Starship albums you recomended are his second and third releases with the band. His first was 1979's Freedom At Point Zero and it's just as good as the other two! :)
ReplyDeleteAh, I must listen to it......Thanks.
