The history makers of Delirous?

End of an era! Delirous? has played their last gig and made their last record. It feels sad in a way because this band has influenced so many bands around the world with their uplifting rock.
I love this British band and I will truly miss them, I still think the concert "Live at the Willow creek" from 2006 is one of the best shows I have on DVD.
Listen to one of their albums tonight and remember this awesome band, I´m listening to "Kingdom of comfort" from 2008 right now.

Check out the new single "Pictures" from metal band AM Conspiracy´s forthcoming album "One" out on Jan 12, 2010.

Members of Fall Out Boy, Every Time I Die and Anthrax have joined forces to create a metal supergroup called The Damned Things.

April Divine has recorded 2 more songs for their forthcoming album out in 2010, it looks like they will sign to Rodeostar (4Lyn). I´ve heard one of the new tracks and it´s a killer.

Lovedrug has posted new demo songs over at www.purevolume.com/lovedrug

ACDC won their first ever ARIA award (Australias Grammys) for "Black Ice" as the best rock album.

Meriwether - Plug in the snakes (2009)

Meriwether didn´t have much luck with their previous album "Sons of our fathers" that was produced by Howard Benson, it was never officially released but leaked on the net like most albums do in the long run.
Their new album "Plug in the snakes" is now available on iTunes and it contains 9 new songs where one track is quite short, the single "If you had guts, I´d hate em" is featured here but it´s not one of the best songs on the album.
I like songs such as "Little miss distraction", "Who do you think you are" and "Abandon all hope" much more.
The bluesy "Come home with me" is rather misplaced here I´m afraid, the title track "Plug in the snakes" is a great crowd starter on stage and the cool "Wake up lion" bring thoughts to The Revolution Smile and Vendetta Red.
For fans of Buckcherry, Charm City Devils and The Last Vegas.

Eloy - Visionary

"Visionary" is Eloy´s first album in 11 years, it was released on Nov 20.

Kevin Gilbert - Nuts and Bolts (2009)

There´s no doubt Kevin Gilbert was a genius, he died too young at the age of 29. Kevin gave us several masterpieces like the Giraffe albums, Toy Matinee, Kaviar and the solo albums "Thud" and "The shaming of the true".
An audition was booked to replace Phil Collins as the new frontman for Genesis in 96 but Gilbert´s manager found Gilbert dead when he was to tell the news, you can always start to wonder how that Genesis album would sound like with Gilbert in the band. WOW!
To the joy for many Gilbert fans, there is now a double CD released with lots of unreleased material called "Nuts and Bolts".
It contains acoustic versions of "Jenny Ledge" (originally on the Toy Matinee album), "Goodness gracious" and "Joy town" (originally on Thud).
Also alternate versions of "The world just gets smaller" and "Finale" (originally on the first Giraffe album), "When strangers part" and "A tired old man" (originally on NRG-No reasons given).
Plus plenty of rare songs like "Kashmir" (studio version of the Led Zep cover), "While heroes cry" (I already got this one a while back) and magnificent prog stuff like "Until I get her back", "Circling winds", "Shannon Elizabeth" and "A childhoods end".
To give this collection anything less than 5 stars is a crime!

Forevertree - Alien (2009)

Forevertree is a Christian grunge/metal band that stand with one foot in the 80´s and the other one in the 90´s, their new album "Alien" could be a bit better produced because the drums sound a bit cheap but the songs are quite good and I like their performance.
There are times when I think of Alice in Chains but also Bride as well as Day of Fire.
I look forward hearing their next album if they can deliver a classier album, the song "Higher" is a killer.

Plain Jane Automobile - The Collector (2008)

Some bands truly stand out maily because of their singer, Florida based Plain Jane Automobile released their debut "The Collector" in 2008 and is starting to create a buzz in the music industry with their emotional alternative rock with Britpop flavor.
Their singer Duke Crider is awesome, he makes these songs come alive in a way that is rare these days with vocoders and singintune effects.
This album is close to a 4 star rating, their sound is atmospheric like a mix between Flickerstick, U2 and As Tall As Lions.
We can call it smart alternative rock!

The Dares - Two Left Feet EP (2009)

The Dares is a talented new pop punk band, taken under the wings of Jive Records. Their new EP "Two left feet" opens very promising with the title track and the catchy "Love me when I leave". My fave is the 3rd track "Why do I".
I think they´re good enough to be overlooked. It only takes one song, one single to climb the charts and this trio definitely has the goods.
For fans of Blink 182, +44 and Simple Plan.

The New Shining - Hedges against the night (2009)

The Dutch trio The New Shining released one of the best albums in 2008 with "Supernatural showdown" and now they´re back with their 2nd album "Hedges against the night".
It´s a worthy follow up even though the new album ain´t as hard as the first album, they should never leave their lovely blend of 80´s hard rock and modern hard rock.
I also think we can add Aussie rock into that mix as well, they sometimes remind of the German band Reamonn but also Noiseworks from Australia.
This is a great album but their debut was better!

I was contacted a month back from the band The Better Death and they said they would send me their new self titled EP but it never showed up.
I wrote back and told them I never got the CD but I didn´t hear from them again, so I thought I should recommend you to listen to their songs anyway on myspace.
Especially the song "Message to your rival" is very good, definitely for fans of experimental and progressive metal.

Adam Lambert - For your entertainment (2009)

Now don´t get fooled by the cover of this album because you will easily start to think about syrup pop or some other kind of Enrique Inglesias MTV pop, the major label debut from Adam Lambert is everything else than those things.
Lambert is without doubt the best singer to have competed in American Idol or any Idol for that matter and the album "For your entertainment" is perhaps also the best album made from an Idol artist.
The opening track "Music again" is the song Queen never wrote with Freddie Mercury and the stunning "Soaked" is the superb song Muse never released on their own albums, yes it is written by Bellamy of Muse.
The new classic "Aftermath" is co-written by Lambert and you just have to close your eyes and enjoy every single moment of this man´s voice, fantastic!

Adam Marsland - Go West (2009)

Now here´s an artist that is a very talented songwriter, California based Adam Marsland released his debut in 2004 and this year he put out his 2nd album "Go West" which is a 2 CD set full of nice songs but also plenty of fillers.
I think it would´ve been enough with just one CD where Adam could´ve focused on the westcoast and 70´s pop side of his music, it sure is a varied album of different styles where Adam also wants give the listener a dose of rootsy rock.
Imagine a mix of Sad Cafe, Christopher Cross, Billy Joel and Graham Parker and we´re close to the sound of "Go West".
However, it´s good enough to check out!

Agnes Pihlava - Redemption (2009)

I wonder if this Finnish girl knows what direction she wants to take? The new album "Redemption" from Agnes Pihlava goes from modern hard rock to AOR and pop ballads to downtuned metal riffs. There are some really good moments on it and I think the album sounds like a million bucks but her vocal performance isn´t 100%, she sings ok but I think female artists from Suomi like Hanna Pakarinen, Dame and Sara Nunes are way better.

The Wrecking - The Catalyst EP (2009)

The Wrecking is a brilliant band that plays hi-tech rock like a mix between Mute Math and The Museum, I really love their 2008 debut "A new absolution" and was very pleased to see that they have a new EP out called "The Catalyst" featuring 6 new songs.
Just like the debut, this EP is a classy work where the beautiful ballad "Our feet don´t touch the ground" almost made it onto the Twilight New Moon Soundtrack, I think it should´ve made it because it´s so good!
Other highlights are "Angels" and "The sound of resistance".

Them Crooked Vultures - s/t (2009)

Everybody calls Them Crooked Vultures a supergroup where at least 2/3 members match that description with Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).
But guitarist/singer Josh Homme (Queens of the stone age) ain´t exactly my choice of a supergroup frontman, the music sounds like we´re stuck in 1972 like a mix of Led Zeppelin, Cream and Kyuss.
I think "Elephants" is a cool song but this album is too overhyped, if it wasn´t for Grohl and Jones - then nobody would talk about Them Crooked Vultures.

Breed 77-Insects (2009)

In my point of view this release is much anticipated. I love their latino flavoured metal with huge riffs. When I listen to their new record the latino parts are mixed down to a minimun which feels very sad. In a way they have lost their original touch and more become a ordinary metal band. The songs are strong though so I like the album anyway. Stand out tracks are "The Battle Of Hatin", "Revolution In My Mind" and the title track. They have also included a nice cover of the Cranberries classic "Zombie".

Spin Gallery - Embrace

Now this is a warm and nice comeback from westcoast/AOR band Spin Gallery.
I truly love their 2004 debut "Standing tall" so it was about time a new album came out even though there´s only one singer remaining on the new album "Embrace" that will be out on Dec 4.
The first album featured the singers Chris Antblad, Kristoffer Lagerstrom and Magnus Weinemo but only Kristoffer is handling the lead vocals on the new album.
The mastermind behind this album is ofcourse guitarwiz Tommy Denander who has done an excellent job with the production and the songs are really good too, I don´t think the new album can match the first album but it will certainly please all fans of ToTo, Mr Mister and the first Spin Gallery album.
The intro of the opening track "Embrace" sounds spooky close to ToTo´s "Hydra".
Highlights: Just a momentary (featuring guest vocals from Robin Beck), You do the things you do (featuring guest vocals from Dan Reed) and Brilliance of the drugs.

Puressence-Sharpen Up The Knives (2009)

A poprock group from Manchester with a singer that reminds me of Vaya Con Dios. How cool isn't that? The singer makes the group very special because they do have an unique sound because of that. This new album is a collection of 13 old and 2 new tracks. Since I have only listened to the record before this one most of the songs are new to me and therefore it feels like an almost whole new record. They have super nice atmospheres in their music and songs like "Standing In Your Shadow", "India" and the new song "Che" are ultra strong and I only have one wish...discover this lovely group!!

Heaven Below-Countdown To Devil (2009)

This album is a grower for sure. In the beginning I felt it was a bit ordinary but when I have listened to it a couple of times I have realized that this is a group that can be reckoned with in the future. They play modern rock with a touch of classic heavy metal. Few bands come up with super strong songs on their debut but the song "When Daylight Dies" really impress me. They have a really nice singer and they put in some symphonic stuff in their music which make it deep and kind of special. I love this album!!

Drenalin-Ground Zero (2009)

This is the second album from yet another band that plays tough modern rock. I have followed them since their debut that came out in 2007 and in many cases an unknown band like this only make one album and then disappears. This is not the case this time and I know one person who is glad...me! The track "Healing Time" is a modern rock classic in my little music world and together with songs like "DKC" and "Pressure" you can only hope that the local radio stations in the States play their music.

Powerman 5000-Somewhere On The Other Side Of Nowhere (2009)

This is a group that have laid close to my heart. Therefore it was a nice surprise to realize that they have released a new record. Quite some time since their last record. The influences on the new record is more Nine Inch Nails than their previous albums so I am sad to say that the quality is a little poor. The first half of the record is OK but the second half you can easily live without. I will listen to their old records instead of the new one, that is for sure.

Prospect Hill-Prospect Hill (2009)

The second album from this modern rock band is a safe affair. They play tough modern rock by the book, but if you ask me it is damn good. I am a sucker for this kind of modern rock and I am always glad when I get the opportunity to listen to a new good record in this genre. Perhaps nothing new under the sun but as I said they deliver a strong performance. Favourites are "Superhero" (has perhaps something to do with the cover?) and the awesome "Secret Me".

Journey´s 1981 song "Don´t stop believin" is #2 on the U.K Rock Charts, yes it´s the 2009 charts I´m talking about.
Snow Patrol´s new single "Just say yes" is #1, but this is fantastic. Who said AOR is dead?

Closures

2009 is the year of closures for me, I wasn´t thinking of it at first so nothing of this was planned but it felt right to end all these things.
I have been going on with the same things for a long time and need to focus on other things.
First I closed my public blog http://rothnroll.blogspot.com (2006-2009) which now is a page for my own original music.
Secondly, I quit melodic.net (2001-2009), it´s the 2nd time I leave this site (not the 3rd time that webmaster Wippsson said on tunelab). The first time was because of personal differences but I came back, however now it´s for good.
And the third closure was my band Human Cometh (formerly known as Clown Eraser and A-Team) that I have been playing with between 1986-2009, I won´t stop working with music but from now on, it will be something different.
I´m still friends with long time collaborator Eddie Andersson (Guitar) and Robert Persson (Drums).
Let´s just see what the future has in store for me.

Me being news on Tunelab

2 albums from Kip Winger in the same year is more than I could ever dream for, first the brilliant Winger album "Karma" and then Blackwood Creek that comes out on Dec 4.
Blackwood Creek is not a new band or a solo album from Kip, it´s his first band he had with his brother Nate on drums and Peter Fletcher on guitar in the late 70´s.
They broke up in 1980 and reformed in 2007 to work on their first ever record, this is more of a classic rock record with all the classic ingredients but also remind a lot of Kip´s solo albums.
"Albatross" is pure heaven and "Nothing but the sun" contains some major cool chord changes.

The Last Goodnight - "Pictures of You"

THE LAST GOODNIGHT | MySpace Video

The Last Goodnight - Pictures of you VIDEO, this song is from 2007 and I have the album but I forgotten how great the song was.

We Are Machines - Dream. Hope. Believe EP (2009)

Los Angeles based posthardcore band We Are Machines might not be among the best in this genre but they´re definitely not among the worst either, they´ve got potential of becoming something really good.
There are moments on their debut EP "Dream. Hope. Believe." that truly stand out but I think the drum production could´ve been a bit better.
Melodic screamo is a way to describe this type of music but it´s also technical and uplifting.
